Sheet Plastination

Silicone Gaskets (HS04 – HS12)
Spacers for flat chamber construction in sheet plastination when using the E 12, P 35 and/or P 40 methods. The required thickness of the gasket depends on the thickness of the specimens. The gasket should be 2 mm to 3 mm thicker than the section to be plastinated, because the binder clips (HS30 – HS32) used for the construction of the flat chamber will compress the gasket. Silicone gaskets are re-usable after removal of polymerized resin residues by immersion in acetone. About 1.6 m (63 in) of silicone gasket are required per flat chamber if 35 cm x 45 cm (14 in x 18 in) glass plates are used.

Binder Clips/Foldback Clamps (HS30 – HS32)
A multi-purpose tool for the plastination laboratory. Binder clips are primarily used to assemble flat chambers for sheet plastination. At least 14 clips are required per flat chamber if 35 cm x 45 cm (14 in x 18 in) glass plates are used. The medium binder size is suitable for single flat chambers with silicone gaskets of up to 10 mm (0.4 in) thickness. The large binder clip size (HS30) is used for double flat chambers or when thicker gaskets are used. Small binder clips (HS32) are used in brain slice plastination for keeping together the double glass walls of the flat chamber during the specimen separation process.

Binder Clips/Foldback Clamps HS30 - HS32

Flat Funnel (HS50)
Folded from polyester foil. For filling flat chambers with resin during the sheet plastination process.

De-aeration Wire (HS55)
Custom made, 1 mm thick stainless steel wire with handle for the manual removal of air bubbles from freshly resin filled flat chambers. Length: 40 cm (16 in).

Positioning Wire (HS56)
Custom made, 4 mm thick stainless steel wire with handle for final positioning of plastinated organ and body slices in the freshly resin filled flat chamber. Length: 50 cm (20 in).

Due to its high elasticity, silicone tubing is particularly well suited for the sealing of flat chambers in the brain slice plastination process. It also facilitates the removal of air bubbles from the resin filled chamber.

Silicone Tubing (HS61)
For 4 mm thick brain slices.

Silicone Tubing (HS62)
For 6 mm thick brain slices.

BIODUR® Sealant (HS80)
Polymerpaste for sealing flat chambers for the P 35 or P 40 methods.
